The masseter muscles are located on the side of the jaw and are one of the four muscles used to assist in chewing. In some people, we can overwork these muscles by continually clenching or grinding our teeth.
As a result the muscle can grow strong and bulky, creating a more masculine appearance to the face.
By relaxing this muscle with Botox we can reduce some of the tension associated with the overuse of the muscle and consequently decrease the muscle size.
The aesthetic effect of this is a slimmer more contoured jawline which lasts around 6 months.
YOUR CONSULTATION
Before any botox treatment with Dr Emma a full consultation will take place in her Cheshire based clinic. During this session we can discuss the treatment options and any questions you may have, alongside your aesthetic goals so each treatment can be tailored specifically to you. There is no pressure to go ahead with botox treatment after the consultation, the main objective is to give you all the information you need to make an informed decision.
YOUR TREATMENT
If do decide to go ahead with your botox treatment this will performed by Dr Emma in her relaxing clinic based in Hale, Altrincham Cheshire. Appointments are not rushed, and care is taken throughout to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible. It is normal to feel a little nervous before your first treatment, but Dr Emma will talk you through everything and you can be confident that you are in safe hands.
YOUR AFTERCARE
For every masseter botox treatment a review is offered 4 weeks after. During this review we can assess the effectiveness of the treatment and that you are happy with the results. You will be given a comprehensive aftercare form after your treatment and this will be discussed with you during your appointment. AM I SUITABLE FOR MASSETER BOTOX TREATMENT?
In order to assess suitability Dr Emma will discuss your concerns and perform a facial assessment during the consultation at her clinic in Hale Cheshire. At this point she will also review your medical history to check there are no contraindications to treatment. You may not have Botulinum toxin injections if you are pregnant or breastfeeding
WHAT TYPE OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT FROM MASSETER BOTOX?
The results that we achieve will be tailored specifically to your own ideals and what is appropriate for your facial anatomy. Botulinum toxin injections take two weeks to take effect, and the results will appear gradually over this time. Although you will notice a reduction in clenching/grinding during this time it will take up to 4-6 weeks to start to notice the slimming effect on the face as the muscle gradually reduce in size. At 4 weeks post botox treatment we will invite you back to the Cheshire clinic to review the results and make any adjustments to treatment if needed.
IS THERE ANY DOWNTIME FOLLOWING BOTOX TREATMENT?
Downtime is minimal for masseter botox treatment. Slight bruising may occur from the treatment which can be covered with makeup if needed the day after.
HOW PAINFUL IS THE JAWLINE SLIMMING BOTOX TREATMENT?
Many people describe the treatment as a ‘mild sting,’ and find it very comfortable. We use the smallest needles available to make the process as painless as possible
HOW LONG WILL JAW LINE SLIMMING BOTOX RESULTS LAST?
Approximately 6 months
DO I NEED TO FOLLOW ANY AFTERCARE?
You should avoid makeup for at least 4 hours post treatment. We would also ask that you avoid heavy exercise, alcohol and extremes of temperatures for 24 hours post treatment. A detailed aftercare leaflet will be emailed to you post treatment.
